Frequently asked questions
What to know before you begin.
Apprenticeship is a practical route into the masonry industry, but every candidate and employer starts with different questions.
Use these answers as an introduction. Program availability and specific requirements can vary, so contact Florida Masonry for current information in your area.
01What is a registered apprenticeship?+
It is a structured career-training model that combines paid on-the-job learning with related classroom instruction and documented skill progression.
02How long is the masonry apprenticeship?+
Florida Masonry’s core apprenticeship pathway is designed as a three-year state-registered program. Exact schedules and requirements should be confirmed with the regional program.
03Do apprentices get paid?+
Yes. Apprenticeship uses an earn-while-you-learn structure: apprentices are employed and paid while developing skills on the job.
04Is the training free?+
Program training is offered without traditional college tuition debt. Ask the regional representative about current participation requirements, books, tools, or other possible expenses.
05Do I need masonry experience to begin?+
Many candidates begin without prior masonry experience. Employers and programs look for reliability, a willingness to learn, and the ability to meet job and program requirements.
06Where are programs available?+
Florida Masonry currently lists program areas in Jacksonville/Northeast Florida, Orlando/Central Florida, Tampa Bay, North Central/Ocala, Southwest Florida, Southeast Florida, the Treasure Coast, and Tallahassee.
07How do employers participate?+
Employers provide paid work and supervised on-the-job learning while coordinating with the regional program on instruction and apprentice progress.
08What can I do after completing the program?+
Skilled masonry can lead to advanced craft roles, foreman and superintendent positions, estimating, project management, instruction, inspection, or business ownership.
09How do I get started?+
Complete the apprenticeship information form with your location and interests. Florida Masonry will route your inquiry to the appropriate workforce representatives.
